It was recently my 21st birthday (watch my 21st vlog if you haven’t already), and my boyfriend amazingly gifted me with a one night stay at the Shangri-La Hotel in The Shard, London. I have always wanted to go to The Shard, and see the views over London, so this was truly such an incredible gift for me!
We had lunch booked at Hutong, at The Shard for 2.30, so arrived a little bit before 2 so that we could leave our bags at the hotel, as check in wasn’t until 3. To our surprise, they let us check in early, and asked us if we would prefer a view overlooking St. Paul’s Cathedral, or Tower Bridge. I knew that the restaurant, and pool had views of St Paul’s, so we opted for Tower Bridge.
Our room was the Deluxe City View room, on floor 52, and the views were certainly breathtaking! I was absolutely blown away by the view of London from our room, and knew already that I would never want to leave. We also had the most beautiful bathtub overlooking London too.
We soon headed for lunch, and enjoyed the lunchtime taster menu from Hutong, a Northern Chinese cuisine. The food was amazing, and sooo filling, so we were so ready to get back to the room and chill whilst soaking in the views! When we got back to the room, I found a chocolate cake with ‘Happy Birthday’ written on left on the side, which was such a nice personal touch.
A few hours after chilling in the room, we headed 2 floors up in swimming gear and robes to the hotel pool. Poolside, there are loungers to chill on, coffee machines and fresh fruit infused water. Not to mention, another incredible view of London, whilst swimming! The swimming pool closed at 8, so around an hour and a half after our 6.30 arrival, we made our way back up to our room to settle down for the night and enjoy our rooms view as the sun went down over London. I was especially super excited to enjoy a long hot bath using the L’Occitane products provided in the bathroom, overlooking Tower Bridge!
We continued to enjoy relaxing in our room for the rest of the evening, and were especially pleased with the simple yet stunning room décor, with a hint of oriental elegance. As we settled down to sleep, something within us decided to set our alarms for just before 5.30am to catch the sunrise from our room, as we knew that this was maybe the only time we would get to see it over London with such a high view. We also decided on room service for breakfast, and left our order outside our room ready for 9.15am the next day.
We awoke at around 5.30 after a few minutes of ignoring our alarm, but surprisingly not that tired after an amazing sleep from undoubtedly the most comfortable and spacious bed I have ever slept in. This was definitely down to the incredibly soft feather duvet and pillows, I felt like I was sleeping on a fluffy cloud! The sunrise over London was so beautiful, and I am so glad we woke up to see it. Seeing as we were already awake, we decided to go for an early morning swim, which was soo refreshing!
After the swim, we headed back to the room and chilled before our breakfast arrived, on the dot at 9.15!! It was literally a breakfast fit for a Princess, such a dream!! We didn’t have to check out until 12, so we showered, got ready and enjoyed the relaxation of the room until the very last second. I was sooooo gutted to have to check out, I honestly wanted to live there!!
I could not recommend this hotel enough, if you are looking not just for an overnight stay in London, but a luxury hotel experience. It is without a doubt the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in, and one of the best experiences I have ever had! The views were second to none, the bed the comfiest I have ever slept in, and the service from all members of staff we came into contact with were extremely professional and friendly. Now I just need to travel to the Maldives, or somewhere exotic to visit one of their other beautiful hotels, anyone with me?!
