The Grill at The Dorchester

A few nights ago, I was lucky enough to be taken out for dinner to The Grill at Dorchester by my lovely boyfriend, for my 20th birthday. I hadn’t really heard much about the restaurant itself, but knew The Dorchester as a highly regarded hotel.

The location of the restaurant was perfect, we stayed at Flemings Mayfair, around a 10 minute walk away. I would 100% recommend the hotel, upmarket and boutique like, with especially gorgeous bathrooms.

Our table was booked for 8:30pm and we arrived around 8:20, we were shown to the restaurant by the door guard and taken to our seats straight away. We sat next to another couple on our own separate tables, with plenty of room between the two tables.. I find it ridiculously awkward when you are too close and basically feel part of their conversation, so I am glad we avoided that.

Once we were seated and settled the restaurant manager introduced himself and greeted us with the menus, he left us to make our decisions, whilst a lovely waiter brought over a bottle of water and a complimentary aperitif. Unfortunately, I did not get to take a picture of this, but it was a sort of bread crisp with a beautiful spreadable salmon puree.

I immediately felt comfortable in the restaurant, the lighting and subtle music accompanied with the copper décor created a serene atmosphere, and I knew we would be proficiently attended to.

We opted for a glass of wine each, impressed with the waiters knowledge on each wine and enthusiasm towards our choices. We then chose our food and decided on the set menu which included a starter, main and dessert.

Soon enough, our starters arrived and this is when we were really blown away. The presentation was impeccable and the taste exquisite. You can see the pictures below.

Our plates were cleared and our mains soon arrived. I chose the Pork Belly and Matthew the Lamb. They brought the two joints of meat out on a silver plate and cut the meat at our table, which heightened the experience for me, I always find the little things make such a difference. The meat was of such high quality and taste.

Finally, dessert. I was really touched by the fact that they knew it was my birthday and decorated my dessert with ‘Happy Birthday!’ and added a candle. The restaurant manager and our personal waiter both wished me a happy birthday, a special added touch.

After dessert, a second complimentary dish was brought to the table, a small strawberry eton mess to finish the meal off beautifully. Again, I did not manage to take a picture of that.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Grill at Dorchester. The food and service was above and beyond what I ever expected. I would recommend this to all if you are looking for a fine dining restaurant experience with attentive service and extremely delicious food.
